Kirsten Brass is an independent writer, director, producer, and fabricator for Animation and Children’s Entertainment.
Kirsten’s experience ranges across stop-motion, 2D and 3D animation, live-action puppetry, and children’s entertainment. She garnered her production management and fabrication skills with companies like Gazelle Automations, The Stop-Motion Department, Alibi Entertainment, Banger Films, and Storywarrior. Her writing career began with scripts for the Bumble Nums preschool podcast and kids’ television shows such as Dino Dex and Wordsville with Sinking Ship Entertainment. In 2025, she directed episodes for Go Togo Season 2, a colourful CBC Kids series with animatronic characters and miniature sets.
Kirsten is passionate about making content for young audiences and creating stories with ecological messages. Her stop-motion short film The Lost Seahorse (2021) went on to win “Best Canadian Film Award” at the Vancouver Independent Film Festival, “Best Animated Short” at the Forest City Film Festival, and “Audience Choice” at the TAIS Animation Showcase. The Lost Seahorse was made in partnership with The SEA People, a Indonesian non-profit organisation working with local communities to protect coral reefs. The film was broadcast on CBC Television and now has a home on CBC Gem.
Kirsten received her BFA in Film Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and a post-graduate certificate in Children’s Media from Centennial College. She is based in Toronto, Ontario.
